The children had loved going to the Curve Garden so much that Kate wanted to get them out again. But what to draw on a dark winters night in London’s East End? Kate was given a bunch of sunflowers this week and looking at them lead her to do a bit of research on Vincent Van Gogh. Later, while out walking, the sight of masses of tangles of twigs and orange street lamps struck her as very beautiful… and since the leaves had fallen, what better subject to draw! The children were shown a wonderful short video about Van Gogh, and then we took to the street, sketchbooks in hand! Once the children had got a feel for the shapes and the trees they liked, we went back into the warm and to do some great pencil sketches onto grey boards – they looked incredible!
